Potential neurobehavioral toxicity of sulfur in mice

چکیده

Sulfur is one of the crucial elements in animal nutrition and has an influential role forming amino acids. It a common toxic element does not significantly threaten human health. The current study aimed to examine potential neurobehavioral toxicity sulfur mice by studying its effects on behavior locomotor activity. 24h median lethal dose- (LD50) mice, as determined up-and-down method was 33.22 g/kg; orally, whereas approximate dose (ALD) 36 g/kg, within 24 h. Signs poisoning were depression, gasping, Straub tail, Piloerection, tremor, dyspnea, muscle fasciculation, convulsions followed death. at 4 8 g/kg doses, after h, caused significant changes performance mice. appeared decrease motor activity open-field test (number crossed squares number rearing 3 minutes), with prolongation increase time required complete negative geotaxis reduction head pocking slight swimming scores. Repeated administration doses 1, 2, for 7 14 consecutive days also led inside pockings endurance test. Using pharmacological challenge xylazine ketamine, induced delay onset sleep shortened duration. This concludes that sulfur, despite low toxicity, toxicant.

Risk Assessment for Neurobehavioral Toxicity

Background: Brain activity has been investigated by several methods with different principles, notably optical ones. Each method may offer information on distinct physiological or pathological aspects of brain function. The ideal instrument to measure brain activity should include complementary techniques and integrate the resultant information. As a "low cost" approach towards this objective, ...

Risk assessment for neurobehavioral toxicity.

A study by the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council (NAS/NRC) found neurobehavioral toxicity to be one of the areas where almost no data are available for the assessment of toxicity. Using the NAS/NRC report and a data base from the American Conference of Government Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), an estimate of the number of neurobehavioral toxins in commercial chemicals can b...

Effect of Sulfur Mustard Toxicity on FLT3-ITD Gene Mutation in Sulfur Mustard Veterans

Background: Sulfur mustard (SM) is a chemical blistering warfare that affects different organs especially hematopoietic system. Prevalence of acute myeloblastic and lymphoblastic leukemia is increased by sulfur mustard exposure. FLT3-ITD mutation can be effective on leukemogenesis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to verify the frequency of FLT3-ITD mutation in the patients who exposed to S...

Chapter 6 – NEUROBEHAVIORAL TOXICITY ASSESSMENTS

Testing must characterize cognitive lapses and mood changes in healthy individuals faced with relevant operational stressors, including chemical exposures and interactions with other stressors, and should be based on understanding effects of final common pathways in brain physiology (e.g. hypoor hyperglycemia, and hypoxia, oxidative stress, and inflammation). Stressors may affect a common hiera...

ATTENUATION OF PARAQUAT TOXICITY IN MICE

Paraquat (PQ) is a widely used herbicide. However, a large number of cases of accidental or suicidal poisoning from PQ has been reported. Membrane damage induced by lipid peroxidation, inactivation of protein or damage to DNA by radical formation have been suggested as toxicity mechanisms of PQ. In the present work, the effects of atropine, propranolol, procainamide and dipyridamole on PQ-...
